Job Description:

The Community Events Specialist reports to the Foundation Relations Director. This person will advance the work of JourneyCare in managing special events and in supporting the other areas of the foundation, including direct mail, major and planned gifts. Must be equipped and prepared to articulate the vision, mission and goals of the agency to current and prospective donors. The Community Events Specialist works closely with the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees.

The Community Events Specialist position will be located out of our Barrington, Illinois office.

  • Works with the Foundation Relations Director and the Special Events Team to develop an annual special events strategy for fundraising and non-fundraising events, to ensure events meet or exceed all fundraising goals
  • Executes a wide range of events, from fund raising and sponsorship plans to the details, activities, and logistics of the evening
  • Serves as the Foundation representative for the community events throughout the year. This includes participation in the planning stages as well as all Day Of responsibilities
  • Engages volunteers, executive leadership, program and committee representatives in special event activities, strategically using partners in cultivation and solicitation of special event gifts
  • Plans and implements calls to potential and existing donors, cultivates, donors and prepare and deliver tailored proposals based on donor interest
  • Utilizes available tools (Prospect Research, Wealth Engine) to research prospects and
  • prepares appropriate contact and activity reports in Raisers Edge
  • Attends JourneyCare Foundation, staff, leadership and committee meetings as well as all events, both fund raising and non-fundraising to further donor relationships and to advance the message of the Foundation
  • Maintains a positive presence and representation of JourneyCare to the communities we serve
  • Provides supportive assistance to outside businesses, non-profits and their events, not only to serve as a learning tool but also to establish connections and partnerships
  • Joins the local organizations to serve as Journey Care’s representative of goodwill and outreach to the community, and to maintain good relations with our generous donors
  • Works with Foundation and Marketing staff to manage donor recognition, publications, special events, and awards and helps to plan and participate in donor recognition events
  • This position supports other fundraising initiatives as assigned, including donor/prospect research and materials, direct mail appeals and stewardship activities
  • Leads the Youth Advisory Board, which consists of high school students. Plans monthly meetings, works with the Volunteer Department for combined efforts with JourneyCare Juniors, organizes their participation in community events, and helps them execute their own fund raiser in the community
  • Assists with marketing and public relations publications, mailings and other projects as necessary

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Valid Auto Insurance required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of development experience with proven success in securing gifts
  • Exceptional talent for building and sustaining relationships, both internally and externally, and for driving results
  • Excellent written, analytical and verbal, communication skills necessary to tailor messages to various audiences and to be an effective presenter for the foundation
  • Covers a ten-county service area, must be able to travel to attend fundraising events and meet with prospective donors, including nights and weekends
  • Computer skills - Word, Excel, Raiser’s Edge, Donor Research Databases, E-mail, Homeworks (agency Patient and Family database)
  • Understanding of fundraising law and ethics and state and federal tax laws
  • Listening skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills
